David Copley currently works at Caterpillar’s Technical Center near Peoria IL where he is a team leader in a group of noise control engineers. David has 24 years of experience at Caterpillar in noise control and has worked on most of Caterpillar’s products in some way.  His expertise is in cab and enclosure acoustics, physical modeling of vibro-acoustic systems, acoustical materials and acoustical measurements. 

 

In addition to his work on Caterpillar products, David has been instrumental in the design of several of Caterpillar’s sound chambers throughout the world, developed Caterpillar’s production sound monitoring system and has served as principle acoustical consultant on architectural and environmental noise issues.  He currently manages Caterpillar’s Sound Research Lab in Peoria, IL.

 

David holds and BS in Physics and a MS in Physics with emphasis in Acoustics from Brigham Young University, and is a Board-Certified member of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering.  He has served on the Board of Directors of INCE-USA and is an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers Acoustical Materials committee.  David regularly presents at INCE and SAE conferences and holds six US patents related to noise control.
